What’s In Your Yard?

Long Leaf Pine Cones

They Are As Big As My Head

I have pine cones. They are as big as my head and easy to grab and run around the yard with. They just seem to fall out of the sky. I hope I never get hit by one. Dad says they come from the long leaf pine trees that fill our yard. The trees are tall, some are 120 feet tall.

You can tell it is a long leaf pine because the needles are in bunches of three and grow from 8 to 15 inches long. That’s how big I was when I got here. The pine cones are about 6 to 8 inches long. They say the wood is good for timber because it is straight with few knots. They even use it to build ships. Mom says they even use the sticky stuff that gets on me for gum turpentine and resin production, whatever that is. I just know that these trees are everywhere. People actually have farms for these trees and sell the pine needles for mulch so that people can make their yards look pretty.

If you would like to have a pretty yard here please be sure to call my dad, Allan Nanney, at 910-528-1181 or visit his website at http://www.YourPinehurstHome.com .
