I’ve never had a Thanksgiving but my first one is coming up in a few weeks. Mom and Dad say we start the morning going to The Blessing of the Hounds. I like the idea that on a day we are thankful that it is about dogs.
The Blessing of The Hounds is on Thanksgiving morning at Hobby Field on Youngs Road. The hunt starts at 9:30 so it’s best to be there by 8:30 to see all the horses arrive. It’s beautiful. Fox hunters in their full hunting attire arrive on their horses along with all of their hound dogs. Reverend Meghan Kelly of Emmanual Episcopal Church will give the blessing for a safe hunting season and when the hunt master blows their horn off they go on their hunt. While they are gone, hundreds, maybe even a thousand people socialize and tailgate until they return. Mom says she can’t imagine a better spot than to be with your family and realizing how blessed and thankful we are to live here. Me, I’m just hoping to go to meet all the dogs. So, pop your turkey in the oven and come and see me.
If you think this sounds like a great place to live call my Dad, Allan Nanney at 910-528-1181 or check out his website at www.YourPinehurstHome.com.
